Dr. Zhang joined the Department of Biomedical Informatics in June 2006. He received his Ph.D. in molecular genetics from Shanghai Institute of Plant Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He subsequently did his postdoc in University of Tennessee, Knoxville and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he spent two years in wet-lab, followed by three years in dry-lab. During his postdoc, he developed data mining systems GOTM and WebGestalt, which are widely used in analyzing microarray and proteomics data sets.
Dr. Zhang's current research interests include statistical analysis and biological interpretation of omics data, heterogeneous data integration, biological network and modularity, and bioinformatics system development.
