Background: Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Weinberg enjoyed 7 years in New Hampshire - first at Phillips Exeter Academy and then at Dartmouth College where he received a degree in Computer Science. He then returned to Ohio to receive his M.D. at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, followed by a pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. From 1990 thru 1993 he was an NLM Medical Informatics Fellow in Pittsburgh under Dr. Randy Miller. Dr. Weinberg's clinical work included 13 years as a pediatric hospitalist and an additional 2 years at an urgent-care center prior to joining the faculty in August, 2004 as an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Informatics. He has since received a secondary appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.

Interests: Clinical decision support, clinical reminders, web services, immunization registries, personal health records, barcoding, intuitive user interfaces, pediatric-specific applications, camp informatics.

Current Projects: Dr. Weinberg is a member of the Wiz/Heo development team, primarily responsible for the creation and maintenance of the AdmissionWiz and ConsultWiz modules. He is also the primary developer for the Patient Flow / Outpatient Whiteboard, running within StarPanel, which is in current use at many of Vanderbilt's on campus and offsite clinics. Dr. Weinberg is active with the American Academy of Pediatrics, serving for 12 years as the webmaster for the Council on Clinical Information Technology (COCIT) and developing its Pediatric Electronic Medical Record Review Site. Dr. Weinberg received the Byron B. Oberst Award from COCIT in 2004.
