Laura Brown completed her undergraduate education at Swarthmore College in May 2000 with a degree in Engineering and a concentration in Computer Science. She then went to the University of Michigan and received a Master's in Computer Science. At Michigan, her coursework and research was focused in the area of artificial intelligence. She worked on research projects dealing with planning and plan management. Since coming to Vanderbilt University, she has worked in several areas of machine learning. Her Master's work focused on a large-scale evaluation of several prototypical and novel state-of-the-art algorithms for Bayesian network learning. Her current research includes work in local causal discovery and variable selection methods.
