Allison Beck McCoy graduated from Baylor University in May 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science as an Honors Program Scholar with Distinction. She entered the MS/PhD program in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in July 2006.

She completed her Masters work in May 2008 under the direction of Lemuel R. Waitman, PhD (chair), Josh F. Peterson, MD, MPH, and Cynthia S. Gadd, PhD, MBA, MS. For her thesis, she developed and evaluated a computerized provider order entry intervention to improve medication safety in the setting of acute kidney injury.

For her PhD project, she is developing a real-time patient care dashboard with integrated clinical decision support interactions for high-risk medications, aiming to improve provider responses to unsafe patient conditions and rapidly correct clinical decision support failures. She is working under the direction of Lemuel R. Waitman, PhD (chair), Josh F. Peterson, MD, MPH, Cynthia S. Gadd, PhD, MBA, MS, John Starmer, MD, and Bob L. Lobo, PharmD.
